Research in the Schraiber group is focused on the full stack of computational genomics: pen and paper theory, statistical methods development, software engineering, and application to diverse datasets. Key interests include applications of diffusion and coalescent theory to ancient DNA problems, ranging from demographic inference (e.g. how are ancient samples related to modern populations? how can we improve our inference of recent population history using ancient samples?) to detecting selection (e.g. using allele frequency time series); development of models of the evolution of molecular phenotypes (e.g. gene expression, chromatin accessibility, DNA-protein interactions); bridging the gap between microevolutionary and macroevolutionary models of quantitative trait evolution (e.g. how do we reconcile observations of rapid evolution on ecological timescales with observations of stasis on geological timescales?).
